GM to open Michigan battery pack plant

Today, General Motors will take a significant step in furthering the country’s EV industry.  It will start operations at the nation’s first battery pack plant run by a U.S. automaker.  The plant in Brownstown Township, MI will assemble the battery packs for the Chevy Volt.

GM chose January 7 to open up shop because it’s exactly three years from the initial announcement of the Volt.  Energy

Student flies like a bird, powered only by himself

A Canadian university student has done what Leonardo da Vincihad only dreamt of: Piloted a human-powered “wing-flapping” plane! Called an ornithopter, and the inspiration for modern day helicopters, the machine was first sketched by da Vinci way back in 1485 and never actually built.

Todd Reichert, an engineering student at the University of Toronto, made history by sustaining flight in his ornithopter — named Snowbird — for 19.3 seconds and covering 475.72
